I am an early-career international development professional who works at an organization that implements USAID education projects. So far I’ve worked in Nigeria, Zambia, and Liberia.

My academic background is in child development and Chinese. I focused my studies on what development professionals call “child protection” or “alternative care” and Evangelicals call “orphan care.” I’m particularly interested in family preservation, deinstitutionalization, and foster care in developing countries, as well as international adoption policy and ethics in the development industry.

I’m also an adoptive sister to two Chinese adoptees. They’re 12 years younger than me, adopted when I was a teenager, and their addition to my family profoundly influenced my life.

I’m on Twitter as @SarahElizNev.
